It’s sad how a few people out there are trying to defame Magnolia Science Academy with lies and invented “Gulen charter schools” term. In order to support our school, I want to share my thoughts about MSA, where my son attends:
Without a doubt, the most positive experience my child and my family in general has been the one-on-one support my son has received at Magnolia Science Academy and the amazing communication between teachers and us.
The entire team; teachers, administrators, counselors, and resources services have spent a significant deal of time and effort to support my son’s learning. I was very pleased to know that he recently made the honor roll. This is the same child that was diagnosed with some form of learning disability (was told by many before MSA), who would always do only “ok” at his best. Thanks to the academic and personal involvement by MSA staff, he is exceeding everyone’s expectations and continuing to grow.
I think believing in the student, caring the student, and working as a team (parents, teachers and administrators) is one thing that I think all public schools should adopt. Magnolia Science Academy is beating the odds year after year. When MSA sends some of the news regarding their achievements like their great rankings in California and Nationwide, it is no surprise to me.
I am glad, some of my friends had suggested MSA to us. After one educational year, I am delighted to observe how MSA improved my son’s progress.

Gulen charter schools argument
I’m a parent of a student of Magnolia since 2010. I’m very happy about my school, Magnolia Science Academy in Hollywood. Teachers are good and administration is easy to talk to. It was my ideal school until one of the other parents came to me and mentioned this website. As an alert parent I read everything in this website and beyond. There is an allegation of being a Gulen charter school. First of all, I did not observe any of the accusations about these schools. This school is as secular as a regular public school. There are international teachers in the school but they are from very different countries. Living in California, I’m pretty used to diversity.
Gulen charter schools argument looks like something used against Magnolia. It is obvious that there are a few people who are not comfortable with a good successful school. I talked about these slanders with the principal and suggested Magnolia taking action against these people.
Magnolia school, please do not let these people to damage the reputation of our schools.

Thumbs up, Magnolia!
Magnolia is the best school that my daughter attended. She really wanted to enroll to Magnolia. She gets extended math instruction with after schools and clubs. We had problems with math at traditional public school. She never got an A in math at her previous school and she did not like the math. Now, she seems to like math, thanks to these after school activities.
Magnolia is providing a state-of-art education involving the school community more than any other school. Magnolia stands out with its diverse and culturally vibrant school environment. They build a community around the school to serve students and parents with true commitment to student learning. Educational achievement, the greatest goal for the kids, cannot be attained without maximum effort.
Magnolia is a true gem in rather gloomy educational landscape after recent recession. Recent cutbacks in California education budget seem to be replaced with even more hard work at Magnolia schools by their highly motivated staff. Magnolia’s educational quality is on an upward trend despite all the cuts. Magnolia is very attentive to parent feedback and they quickly change things around based on parent recommendations adaptively.
There are some allegations against Magnolia (namely being Gulen charter schools). These allegations seriously contradict with what we have seen at these schools by far. All we see at Magnolia is dedication and support for kids to attain their life-long goals.

I have a daughter who graduated from MSA San Diego and my younger daughter started 6th grade at MSA this year. I am so amazed with the kind of transition I’ve seen in my younger daughter. My 6th grader changed from an irresponsible little kid into a responsible and hardworking young lady in only 3 months, thanks to her teachers’ hardwork and discipline. There are many activities I can just go and participate as a parent at the school. For sure, Magnolia is the best school my two daughters ever attended.
A big “Thank you!” to the founders and staff of Magnolia Science Academies for such a great experience.

As a parent, after looking through many websites, I have found many false comments about Magnolia being labeled as Gulen charter schools. What caught my eye is that there are many people who are making untrue comments about these schools, but do not seem to have any idea where their sources came from to blame these schools. People do not seem to have strong and reliable sources to back themselves up. There are many misleading comments, articles, and news to make these schools look bad. One should look more into the teachers, education quality, and test scores of these schools instead of listening to gossip, rumors, and lies.

Lately, a friend of mine brought some online content about my daughter’s charter school to my attention.
I went through the websites she suggested me to take a look, and saw pieces claiming the charter school to be a part of Gulen charter schools, presented in an over judgmental nature. The writer(s) of the blogs were quite hasty to make conclusions about the school and its staff, drawing unrelated issues together.
I appreciate her thoughtfulness, yet, to me, they just did not make any sense.
It is sad to see that a few people still ignore this charter school’s contributions to our community because of their prejudice. I hope they’ll visit our school one day to see what actually is going on.

My son is a 9th grader at Magnolia Science Academy and he LOVES going to school every day. He is eager to attend the school, as learning new concepts enables him to be self-motivated, and he is already impatient for the new school year.
I think, running a good charter school is hard work, yet it is easy to speak ill of anything. Educational outcomes show the exceptional accomplishments of Magnolia, and I think, this charter school is a chance for the surrounding community. So, people that try to vilify this charter school by generating a “Gulen charter schools” noise shall rather remember that actions speak louder than words.

I’m tired of the irrational Gulen charter schools claims about Magnolia charter schools. They are good schools with no-nonsense academic standards. I was especially impressed by the school environment that forms a sense of big family comprised of teachers, administrators, and of course, students, all of whom feel a real affection to their school community.
If Magnolia teachers follow these lines as well, here is a piece of advice for them: Be open for genuine feedback but don’t be distracted with what people with some agendas say. It is Gulen charter schools campaign today, and who knows what allegations will emerge in the future.
No matter what, neither be spoilt due to your success nor feel bad when some individuals ignore these achievements; just focus on what is needed, as you have done so far.
My two cents…

I finally found a charter school that indeed values education, innovation, and growth. Why would someone try to mislead people about this great school with their fictions like Gulen charter schools anyway?
I take this as normal. Not everyone will celebrate your achievements; you should always save some room for jealousy too.
Teachers here take their jobs very serious, and they are impatient to see the days their pupils go out into our communities and work to make them better. They plan individual learning paths student by student, and visit their families to inform them about their children’s progress.
As a parent, I am happy to see that the priority is and has always been our children. That is what I all care about.

Recently, I was reading an article about the top ten public schools in California.
On the comments section, I wanted to congratulate those schools for their success. Then I saw this comment which stated “Magnolia Science Academy (MSA) couldn’t make the top ten in California”. He/she was also trying to associate MSA with what he/she calls Gulen charter schools. There can be two reasons to post such a funny comment that I can think of:
First, this Gulen charter schools crier might be expecting MSA among the top ten schools. If this is the case, I want to thank him/her for sharing MSA parents’ feelings. And I would like to remind him/her that it was a near miss, MSA did pretty well this year by ranking the 13th in California.
If not appreciation, the other reason to make such a comment could be hatred or jealousy to the extent that he or she solely thinks to defame MSA. I think, these feelings make those Gulen charter schools bloggers loud such baseless and funny comments on this successful charter school.
They try hard not to miss any chance, even if it’s the success of any other public school. When they don’t see their target school in the top ten list, they just write “Oh, this Gulen charter school didn’t make top ten”. But, they ignore the fact that the charter school has ranked 13th in California.
I’m glad that these few individuals posting Gulen charter schools junk all around do follow MSA and it’s achievements closely. However, I have two objections: One, MSA is not a Gulen charter school, and two, it has proven it’s success in the national level a couple of times. Simple huh?..
