My daughter was in a very famous school district in Orange County last two years. A lot of parents choose this city for the school district. That’s why I first moved into this city as well three years ago. I have been closely following Pacific Technology School (PTS) Santa Ana. I had a couple of friends whose sons and daughters attend PTS. I wasn’t very happy about my daughter’s Math in her local public school. She wasn’t challenged at all even though I talked to her teacher couple of times. I saw her decline in Math in her two years at this school. One final obstacle for her was the Algebra screening test. Based on that screening test, she wasn’t allowed for Algebra in seventh grade because she missed one or two more items on the test. This was tipping point for me. I decided to move my daughter to PTS. After talking with my daughter, we went to PTS. She got a screening test there as well. She was allowed to take Algebra there. Besides regular Algebra course, she was challenged with Advanced math problems every week. She was trying her best effort through out the year. There were always some problems she wasn’t able to solve. But she liked Math again. I sometimes questioned the strategy of her teacher as well. But, her teacher was confident that her method works and my daughter gained confidence in Math and she is not bored with Math anymore. I don’t need to try to motivate her anymore.
From my first year as a parent of PTS, I am impressed with how teachers put all their energy and effort for all of their students. They consistently monitor student progress and inform parents right away. No student slips through the cracks at PTS. Kids are inspired to do their best and they enjoy Math and Science.
Thank you PTS!
I feel very strongly about the merits of charter schools and how they can change the trajectory of a child’s life, as it’s the case with my family.
My youngest son is advanced in science. While many schools lack the ability to foster a student like him as they are focused on students who are struggling, at Magnolia Science Academy my son’s gift is recognized and his growth encouraged. Rather than having the entire class work through the curriculum at once, the students group together who are on the same level, so my son and others like him can move forward when they are ready to, rather than having to wait. After-school activities and the science club at the school also provide extra learning opportunities within settings that are further focused on the topic.
Charter schools instill a love of learning in their students from the very beginning which translates to future success in school and beyond. Both my younger son and my older son who attends Magnolia Science Academy understand they are being given the opportunity of lifetime. They don’t complain about the extra homework or other commitments because they are seeing how these things are helping them fulfill their goals.
Charter schools are setting the bar in education. They encourage autonomy, exercise accountability, and the quality of education they offer is excellent.
I believe that students would be more successful when their parents are involved in their school. I think there might be even research studies that look at this issue. My son goes to Magnolia Science Academy for the past two years. Before, he finished the assigned elementary school in our neighborhood. I thought I was involved in his school. But I wasn’t updated or reminded his behaviors or assignments as I am aware now at MSA. I appreciate getting the behavior/positive-negative points emails. Most times, when you ask a child how their day was, they will purposefully NOT mention, negative points, or detention.
If there is any action needed to be paid attention by parents, I am aware right away.
And it definitely helps the child to understand and be reminded of their actions when they are at home.
Moreover, it helps the overall communication between the teacher and parent without having to wait until a parent-teacher conference so that negative behavior does not go any further. Timely action helps student, late action wouldn’t help any problem. I also love the fact that we can keep track of homework. Many schools do not have these systems or the teachers do not know how to use it efficiently.
I love Magnolia Science Academy teachers, staff and administrators. They listen to parent’s concerns and act accordingly.
Thank you MSA!
MSA 5 is an exceptional school that prides itself on maintaining good communication between both parents and students. The teachers and staff work very hard to see that the students receive the attention and encouragement they need to advance to higher education. They offer specialized programs such as Advanced Math, Computer Science, and Science programs which involve many competitions throughout the year. They have tutoring and after-school programs such as running club, food critic, year book club, and robotics. I would not send my son anywhere else. He has learned so much.
I am a parent at this school and I can’t be happier to support a school that is dedicated to teach our kids and to help them be the best they can be. My son is in 7th grade he is doing wonderful. I’m happy to have my son in a school that provides the support our kids need. Great teachers, wonderful staff, love the way the principal always like to reward students who do better. Thank you MSA-1 for all the great job..
Over the years, I have been involved in public education in one way or another with my kids’ education. I have sent my kids to so-called “best public schools”. However, I was much disappointed with the teacher attention that my kids got. At times, I tried to talk to teachers and see if they could consider my kids’ strengths and weaknesses to adjust instruction a little bit for my kids. However, the teachers seemed to be surprised with my kind advances to suggest that they may try different things to challenge and accelerate instruction for my kids. I was rather dismayed with the responses from teacher after teacher. There were many dedicated teachers and they were doing amazing things and they were willing to differentiate a little, but the district required them not to deviate from annual, monthly, weekly, or daily plans that they were following. The culture of the school and the district was not framed on challenging the students to their fullest potential. Rather, the culture was to teach to the standard and test to the standard. There was nothing beyond that.
Magnolia provides a different kind of choice. I found that teachers are willing to listen to me at least. Even if there are no changes that they could offer, you feel that something is right. I did not get the feeling of being ignored or of you cannot teach me my job attitude. My kids feel safe at Magnolia and personal teacher attention is visible on my kids. The teachers provide a well-coordinated attention to my kids not just in classroom but also in the whole school. The schooling at Magnolia is not a canned food approach in which everybody does something; Magnolia has a differentiated approach in which student abilities and characteristics are taken into account to offer the best possible instruction to the student realizing that each student is different.
While public schools get their act together to pay attention to the parents, Magnolia is my choice! Why? I see that my kids have a better future with Magnolia. I see that my kids are trusted to nurturing environment at Magnolia. Thank you Magnolia, for offering a better schooling choice!
I know, some people are telling a lot of Gulen charter schools lies about Magnolia Schools. I recommend one thing to all those. Check out the Washington Post’s High School Challenge Index that ranks America’s Most Challenging High Schools. Let me give you a hint about a school showing up among the top 50, Magnolia (48). Now you tell me this and that, I give you a link from a completely objective source.
My kid is one of the witnesses of the quality education provided in Magnolia, but I don’t want you to believe me. Check out that link and try to tell me that our teachers are doing badly. Let me give you another hint, this time about your answer. You should say “No way they are doing badly, we were the ones doing wrong” if you have conscience of course. So, start doing something good for them by stopping those lies first, at least.
